Band History
History of the Lander Pipe Band
The Lander Pipe Band was formed in 2001 in the wake of the 9/11 attacks on the United States. There was an effort across North America to honor those who died in those attacks. The band had already been practicing at the Lander, WY fire hall for other group performances. The North American Pipe Band Association (ANAPBA) led an effort to have all bands across the continent to play in memory of the lives lost on 9/11. The band played at this event in Lander's City Park. After that October 11, 2001 memorial event, the band became formalized.
Since then, the band has performed any/all memorial events for first responders and veterans as needed/requested throughout Central Wyoming (primarily Fremont County).
In September 2023 the band changed its name from Lander Volunteer Fire Department (LVFD) Pipe Band to "Lander Pipe Band" in recognition that the overwhelming majority of the band's members are youth. And the band has one firefighter member (Bobby Johnston).
